What Treatments Do Kids Need?

kahoka children's treatmentKids need to see the dentist just like you do for prevent treatments. We also have custom restorations and other options to help kids of all ages avoid poor oral health and enjoy stronger teeth and gums. In today’s blog, your Kahoka, MO, dentist talks about the kinds of treatments kids may need from the dentist.

Visits Every Six Months

Children ages two and older should have a checkup and cleaning every six months! A checkup means a chance to examine the smile for signs of cavities, infections, gingivitis, or complications with the loss of baby teeth or the eruption of permanent teeth. Addressing the issues early helps prevent painful complications! We also discuss good oral health habits too. With a cleaning, we remove all harmful plaque and tartar from the teeth, which limits the risk of cavities and gum health issues.

Dental Sealants

If your child has a high cavity risk, but cannot reach the back teeth very well when brushing and flossing, wed could help with sealants. Essentially, we place a special acrylic coating to the rear teeth. We then cure this material. The process takes only minutes, and the sealants prevent any food from becoming stuck between the hard-to-reach molars. They can then stay in place for between five and ten years on average!

Fluoride Treatments

Every six months, we will also place a fluoride to the teeth. Fluoride is a naturally-occurring material that strengthens the outer enamel to help prevent cavities. The process only takes a few minutes, and helps keep little smiles strong. Your child can also receive fluoride with tap water or their toothpaste.

Fillings and Crowns

If your child develops a cavity, then treatment is needed to prevent infection or premature loss of baby teeth. With a filling, we place a lifelike and metal-free material that is safe for all ages. The material is color-matched to blend with the tooth too! Placement only takes one visit. For more severe issues, we could create and place a crown, which covers the entire visit portion of each tooth.
